FAQ

Questions about our service

How long will it take to apply the coating?

Application itself doesn’t take long, but the preparation work is extensive and inclement weather may interfere. We provide you with a project completion date, which you can access here. This is more of a “worst case scenario” date, but most jobs are completed in 1 to 3 days. Before applying the Deck Helmet coating, we clean your deck and seal it to eliminate cracks and create a smooth surface. The sealant must cure completely, which may take longer if the cracks are deep and extensive.

Do I need to do anything to get ready for the appointment?

We ask you to remove all your deck furniture, as well as any items from underneath the deck. Bring all outdoor pets indoors or ensure they don’t have access to the deck. If you are unable to move all the furniture yourself, our team will be happy to assist with the heavy items.

Do I need to be home for the application?

No, you don’t, as long as you provide us access to your deck (e.g. by leaving the gate open, etc.). Our team can use ladders if you are not home. However, we ask you to keep your pets indoors and don’t allow them to walk on the deck for at least 24 hours.

What if I’m still not home when the job is finished?

If you are not home before our team leaves, they will give you a call to notify you that the job is finished. We ask you to inspect your deck before 7 pm the same day and call 1-888-987-8626 or visit this page to inform us if you have any issues with the application. If we don’t receive a call, we assume that you are happy with the job and will move forward with processing your payment. Read more here.

What if I need additional work?

If the work performed by our team per service agreement doesn’t satisfy you for any reason, we ask you to fill out a job completion checklist (a punch list) and then call our office at 1-888-987-8626 to let us know you submitted it. We will schedule another team to come out and address all your concerns. Customer satisfaction is the cornerstone of our business.

What is a punch list?

A “punch list” is how we refer to the job completion checklist. It’s a form that you can fill out after the deck inspection to let us know if you are not completely happy with the job. We ask you to submit this form by 7 pm the same day, so that we can send a team right away and fix any issues. If you submit the punch list after the deadline, you might have to wait a few days until we can schedule a visit. You can submit a punch list online here – when prompted to log in, use your cellphone number for both login and password in the following format: 111-111-1111.

Questions about Deck Helmet coating

How long does Deck Helmet coating take to dry?

It can take up to 48 hours to dry completely, depending on the weather conditions. We recommend not placing the furniture back on the deck until 48 hours have passed.

What colors does it come in?

We offer Deck Helmet in many different colors. You can choose to use one color or go with a two-tone design. The coating can be mixed with the color pigment of your choice.

When is it better to apply Deck Helmet?

The best possible scenario is a warm, sunny day. We strive to schedule our appointments around the weather, but you can’t always predict it. If rain, snow or wind causes damage to a freshly applied coating, our team will be happy to return and touch it up.

What if it rains the day of my appointment?

No worries – we will automatically reschedule it for the next available time window and notify you about the new date.

How do I clean my deck after it’s been coated with Deck Helmet?

The Deck Helmet Coating can be cleaned with a brush, composite deck cleaner and water. Never use a pressure washer to clean your deck once the coating has been applied.
